Maritza Ramirez, 57, had worked at Marian Assisted Living for 14 years before being charged with multiple counts of theft and theft scheme on Tuesday, May 24, according to Montgomery County police.

The investigation began last March after a victim's family discovered that jewelry and a cell phone had gone missing from a secured bedroom at the facility in the 19100 block of Georgia Avenue, while the resident was undergoing surgery and recovery.

Ramirez was identified as the suspect through probable cause.

Investigation revealed that Ramirez had frequently pawned items since 2015, including fine jewelry, diamond rings, gold pendants and gold necklaces.

From Sep. 2015 to April 2022, Ramirez pawned six purses and over 70 pieces of fine jewelry including wedding bands and engagement rings.

Detectives were granted a search and seizure warrant for Ramirez's Germantown residence on Friday, May 20, 2022.

During the search on Tuesday, May 24, multiple items of evidentiary value were recovered.

Ramirez has been charged with one count of theft: $100 to under $1500, two counts of theft: $1500 to under $25,000, and two counts of theft scheme: $1500 to under $25,000.

Detectives believe that there may be additional victims of Maritza Ramirez who have not contacted the police and urge victims to contact the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530.
